Voice Control is an exclusive feature of iPhone 3GS which enables its users to make phone calls and play music by using voice commands. Some folks over at this forum have released a Voice Control look-alike app for iPhone 3G and iPhone 2G which works and looks almost exactly as it is on iPhone 3GS.

You will need to have an unlocked and jailbroken iPhone for this to work. Please refer to the guide posted here in order to unlock and jailbreak your iPhone before you follow the steps below:

Step 1: Download WinSCP on Windows or Cyberduck on Mac. (download links given below.)

Step 2: Make sure you have OpenSSH installed on your iPhone:

  • Open Cydia. Touch on “Search” tab and then search for “OpenSSH”.

  • Install “OpenSSH” and reboot your iPhone.

Step 3: Connect your iPhone with your computer. Make sure iTunes is not running.

Step 4: Start WinSCP on Windows or Cyberduck if you are on a Mac and enter the following details to login to your phone:

  • Hostname: The IP address of your iPhone. Setting –> WiFi –> <Your Network Name>
  • User name: root

That’s it! Restart your iPhone and you should now have a new app named “Voice Control” on your springboard. Start this new application on your iPhone 3G or 2G and simply search through your contacts, music and bookmarks by using voice commands just like iPhone 3GS!

I can’t get this app started. It seems to start, but shuts down immediately.

Is this going to be added to Cydia?

How can I make it so that when I press the home button for a long time it starts this app. Like in 3GS?

  2. aCtiSyS says:

This is not the real Voice Control, the ordinary named for this app is Vocalia with skinned image of the Voice Control.

  3. thelatinist says:

Why are you promoting application piracy? This is not the native voice control, it is a cracked App Store app with a couple of changed graphics. If people want Vocalia, they should pay the $3.99 for it, and you should not be giving instructions on how to pirate it.

  9. Unknown says:

This isn’t a proper Voice Control setting, it’s an app named Vocalia which can be downloaded from the App Store.

    But it’s okay…
It won’t harm your iPhone, since it’s an App from the App Store.

is this fix capable on 3g os 4.0?

  13. bsm1970 says:

Works on my 3G with 3.1.3. Vocalia offers a free sponsored version with iAds embedded, but made it only work with iOS4. I would have been more than happy to use the ad supported one had they not put that restriction on it. Or at least have used it until I determined if I wanted to pay for it. Their loss. Next time don’t cripple your app arbitrarily.
