iCrossing Launches Social Media App for iPhone: Say What?

iCrossing, a global digital marketing agency today announced the release of Say What? a free iPhone social media monitoring application that enables integrated search of Twitter, Digg, and thousands of forums and blogs. Say What? can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store.

The application scans the most active social media networks on the Web for a keyword or phrase, and returns a real-time snapshot of what is being said where and by whom.

Users enter a search term on a simple interface, and the latest conversations from each of the social media sites are returned in an easy-to-read format. Say What? displays the most recent conversations in aggregate, unlike searching social networks or blogs via a mobile browser.

Users have the option to dig deeper into the responses on a particular source, and a search history is saved so users can get easy updates for their regularly-searched terms.

“iCrossing developed Say What? to demonstrate how search, social media and mobile can work together to provide users with information that is real-time and relevant,” said Rachel Pasqua, director of mobile strategy, iCrossing. “Our goal was to put one-click social media monitoring in the palm of the user’s hand.”

Say What? is the latest in a number projects developed by iCrossing’s growing mobile practice. iCrossing has built mobile platforms for Mazda USA and Toyota Motor Sales that were designed to meet the specific information requirements of users who are on-the-go while keeping operational costs at a minimum. iCrossing also provides clients with a robust and flexible SMS platform that currently powers sales lead alerts for Kia dealers and enables users of MazdaUSA.com to send dealer information directly to their cell phones.

Facebook for iPhone 3.0

Facebook for iPhone 3.0, which will include a spate of new features likePage updatingvideo uploading, events, likes, and the “new” News Feed, is almost ready for release, according to Facebook’s Joe Hewitt. According to Hewitt, the finishing touches on the app – like translating it into several languages and dropping in updated icons – are “99%” done. However, even when the app is finished, it still needs to be approved for release by the Apple app store team – a process which might take some time.

With nearly 12 million monthly active users, Facebook for iPhone has become one of the most important ways users access Facebook through mobile devices. Facebook for iPhone is now used by nearly 25% of all iPhone owners.

70% of Facebook’s 250 million total users are outside the United States. Facebook’s efforts to translate Facebook for iPhone 3.0 into more languages should help it spread even more. Only about 50% of iPhone and iPod Touch users are in the United States.

Facebook 3.0 Update Coming Soon

FacebookKeep your eyes on the update tab in the App Store! Facebook will be releasing an update to their iPhone app very soon! I have to admit I’m pretty excited about this. Right now, the app is very clunky not to mention the major bug of messages from groups in your inbox don’t show up. There’s lots to be excited about though. Here’s a list of upcoming features straight from the developer’s Facebook account:

Facebook for iPhone 3.0 is coming very soon. I can’t predict an exact date when I will submit to Apple, but I can say that I am about 98% done. So what’s new in this update?

1. The “new” News Feed
2. Like
3. Events (including the ability to RSVP)
4. Notes
5. Pages
6. Create new photo albums
7. Upload photos to any album
8. Zoom into photos
9. Easier photo tagging
10. Profile Pictures albums
11. A new home screen for easy access to all your stuff, search, and notifications
12. Add your favorite profiles and pages to the home screen
13. Better Notifications (they link to the comments so you can reply)
14. Quickly call or text people right from the Friends page
15. Messages you are typing will be restored if you quit or are interrupted by a phone call

The one feature everyone is asking for, Push Notifications, is in development but it won’t make it into 3.0. You can expect it in a 3.1 update later this summer.

When I have submitted the app to Apple I will let you all know!

– Joe
